Good Night, Thanksgiving!

We spent the past few days
with my new niece and her new
parents and my other sister-in-law
and her boyfriend. I love them all. And no
one ate turkey, I think.
I did not drink a bottle of urine.
I did not see a dead deer with
no penis.
Also, no obliterated bears in the road or
Star Trek geeks wobbling.
The exact opposite happened.
Every shade of brown was handsome.

People Point at Things! (Sometimes They Do or Don't Regret It)

Monday Night

The reading tonight was really nice.
From where I was sitting, I couldn't hear
as well as I would've liked. But we have
to remember that my ears are
largely inadequate.
On the other hand,
stuff comes through sometimes,
like this evening.
I wanted to stay and talk with Dan, Joe, Ryan,
Shaun, Andrew, and Megan. And some other
people too. Some of whom I saw
and some of whom I didn't.
But I'm like an old guy now.
I gotta get home and think about the
outside world.

A Reminder: Monday!

It might seem like a bit of a sausage fest,
but it's really a saucy fest!

Poetry on Monday!

This is coming this coming Monday. It should be terrific. I'm happy about reading with all of these people. On the above flier, I'm identified as a professor of poetry, which is true, but in a half-true sort of way. If I were running for public office, it could be used against me. I have made changes to the original flier.

The Package

First, there was the cardboard box
that was wrapped in clear tape.
I got a knife. Then there was a box wrapped
in sticky paper. Then another layer of sticky paper.
Then another layer. Then there was a layer
of clear tape. Then, another box. When I
opened this box, there was a jar wrapped
in sticky paper and more clear tape. There
were a bunch of layers of each. It was hard
work. I was starting to sweat. When I finally got
to the jar, the lid was glued shut. It took me
a while to dislodge it. The Jar was filled with glue,
but deep in the center of the glue was a small
package wrapped in clear tape. Below those
layers of clear tape, was a sort of tiny tarp
that seemed plastered to a layer of tape beneath it.
I unpeeled the tape and the tarp. I cut
through the layer beneath that.
There was a box rife with screws. It was
very screwy. I undid the screws I could undo and
got a small hacksaw for some of the others. I
was laughing a little to myself by now. Also,
I was frustrated. I had broken one of my fingernails.
Beneath the screwy box was a ball of tape
wrapped with sticky paper and a hard shell
like thing coated with a bony chocolate.
It was late by now. I chiseled the shell and fought
my was through the tape and sticky paper.
It was a loosening situation. There was much
pulling and slackening. Through it all, not
a single phone call. And that's what I think about
now. Not a single fucking phone call.

From the Evening

There are things I would like to do. Things I should do. I would like to update this blog with links and, like, maybe a new look. Make the background white or something. I'd like to do other stuff. Write some more songs or something. Here are some of the names of the songs I've been working on:
Certain Strangers
Fort Lauderdale
Death at Your Door
Depression Dresses
Birth Control
Mohammad Ali
Lost Human Cure
Crawling around on the Floor

There are other songs too. Also, there is this nagging on my innards. I would like to un-nag my innards, but that doesn't seem likely. Also, I would like to have a better grasp of history, i.e. a deeper understanding of psychology of conspiracy theorist, etc., the lives of the presidents...Also, the nature of my humanness demands me to be unsettled and goofy with revisions. I am definitely not talking about writing.

A Nice Thing for Saturday

My friend Todd says some nice things about me here. That's nice of him. What a guy! (Really!) He likes the Poet's Bookshelf books (check links to your immediate right) and wonders what my 5-10 essential titles would be. What's really important about this situation isn't that I answer the question, but that you (whoever you are) buy those books. Why? Well, because they're good and people like Tom Koontz of Barnwood Press deserve your support because he kicks so much ass in a world that doesn't always kick so much ass. Even so, here's a first quick list for Todd (in no order other than unconscious):

Flannery O'Conner (esp."A Good Man Is Hard to Find")
Leaves of Grass
Bob Dylan
Kurt Vonnegut (esp. Cat's Cradle)
William Carlos Williams
Wallace Stevens
Sherwood Anderson (esp. "The Triumph of the Egg")
Emily Dickinson
(Blah...) The Bible
Nabokov (esp. Pale Fire)

And that, You People Who Inhabit the Universe, is the half-truth!

If I Could Title the Poem in Such A Way So as to Breathe Something Cool into It, I Would

If I could explain exactly how the black goo
inside me just falls off, sorta inward
in a bucket-y thing, if then perhaps I wouldn't
be all wrapped up in a ball, watching
TV and repeating the same things.

A Current State of the Economy

I have fears about the universe that
I can't explain in terms of heroin addicts
but the fact resides that there
are home owners growing restless at this
very moment. Many of them are resuming the
enunciation of words that recall the word
Remains. Even many of the stupider ones
have pinned there hope on a mad
donkey that is running rough-shod round
this junky joint, hee-hawing
and doing a whole bit about being
a jackass. I was going to say something else
there, but, in the end, I was like, fuck it.

Election Haiku

Since Obama is
half-white, we elected a
black president too

Sarah Palin is
a real hot rod baby, I
mean, that makes no sense

For McCain/Palin
supporters, suck it up.
Your turn to wince, bitch

I know I sound dumb
but it's true that I'm very
uncool, deep down like

"There was no looting
and that's surprising given
how those people are"

Post W, a
liberal sounds pretty good.
Pre W, too

O, Please!

O, I'm avoiding watching the news right now
and the news shows with their projections
and whatnot speculations etc. I will wait
till later. For now, Trading Spouses. For later,
now. Indiana will perhaps be unable to purse
it's mouth into the shape of an O, though
if it did I would shape my head into the shape
of something new, like an Indiana shaped Peter
Davis growth. In the meantime, my wife's
birthday. Also, she is sick but beautiful.

A Place to Put My Grief

When Bush won in 2004 I was wincing
and wincing and it was all sliding around inside
of me. Oh, goodness, Palin is like a porno whale
in my fat cells. She is blubbery and light
blue. She is urine-y in me, doing handstands
and reciting a manual on dumb handstands.
Anyway, this hung, dead shit is
bobbing around my head
and I keep thinking...Those saucer eyes,
those saucer eyes, can I gaze into
those saucer eyes for four years, four years....
Indiana is shrinking all around me now
as might an allergy to a throat,
a bee sting on an tonsil.
Even after all of the dead have been counted,
will there be a room removed to
make way for the bloody towels? Will
I have to add-on, or can we simply
dig a deeper pit?
