And Right Now the Baby Is Crying

How is my list of things to get done coming along? It's going okay, I'm getting there.
Was I happy about the rain today? I was indifferent.
Max got a cut on his lip. A kid at school hit him with a hula hoop.
I'm having one of those nights when I want to absolutely do nothing, but
I can't decide what to do while I'm doing nothing.

The new Short Hand CD will be here within weeks. You should get a copy.

Life is fast and you find your kids asking you about the clouds.

I have other stuff I am doing by I don't want to mention it due to some kind of notion of the jinx, or something like that.

When you are putting together poetry anthologies you often deal with poets. When dealing with poets one may realize that some poets are unpredictable--they say something, but then they don't do it, or vise versa. Of course, many poets are very, very nice. When dealing with poets, my advice is to expect some wackiness and to try to enjoy it, as opposed to letting it ruin your day.

When walking out the door of your child's pediatrician, do not walk into the door frame, you might create a welt on your shoulder. My advice when walking through a doorway is to avoid the solid matter that composes the door and door frame. Instead, simply walk through the air.

When expecting good news that doesn't arrive, you may begin to feel betrayed and bitter, this is a form of anxiety manifesting itself. My advice is be sure you're breathing and to try and stay busy. For instance, you could update your blog.

It Was a Father's Day Gift

I went with my college roommate.
And that new guitar player rips. He's like the cousin of George Lynch, but way cooler.
Also, he was a giant, like Conan O'Brien, but chicken-headed,
like the guitarist for a sweet rock-n-roll band.

I've been working on new poems. I would post them here, but this blog is for poems that were written for the blog. It is going well, though nothing is ever good enough. Also, the new CD will be arriving soon, within weeks. Oh, my kids keep growing. Estella is sitting up by herself and laughing lots. Maxwell is smart and fun. He says, "That's revolting!" My wife is beautiful, people. She is helpful too. It is summer.

I would like you to lean closer to your computer screen. I would like you to reach out and touch these words. I say there is an anointing, but that's not exactly what I mean.

That's the Poem

O my goodness there
are people in the midst
of your life.
My life, I mean.
So that I am a child

of my childhood
and that's something
you can't control.
So you roll down
down hill

you're out of hill.
Something stupid.
You'd say
something else,
but how.

What You're Going Through

I am not sure what you feel.
What I feel is hard to describe.
I feel words that always feel wrong.
I feel like they probably seem
wrong to you.
If you are alone now
I hope you'll appreciate what
I'm going through.
It does not feel good.

My wife says she loves the poems
on this blog,
she was like, That's terrific! and Super! etc.
And I value that
despite her lack of knowledge
regarding poetry and whatnot.
What matters is that she values me.
And she meant what she was saying.
She was enthusiastic and serious.
So am I when I say
that that matters.
I would rather my wife love my blog
than you, though
I am grateful for you,

Of Course

I don't have to say anything, but it's the nice thing to do.
