Just returned from a couple of days.
My wife and sweet kids went with me. They're beautiful.
I read at the Danny's Series and at the Fixx Series.
It was nice to see A. Belz and A. Guth again, and nice to meet Chris G. and Peter M. and Nick O.
Nathalie Belz played chess with Max and Stella walked around in Nathalie's shoes.
Eli Belz bummed ten bucks from his dad to buy Hitler's Mustache and told me he really liked "The Short Story" and "The List of Facts."
We saw the aquarium.
I was half sick.
I slept in the car in a parking garage.
We had room service.
At 2 AM, we made it home.
It was all beautiful in a Family Vacation, half-kills-you-half-kisses-you sort of way.

Today I Saw an Old Friend

George Carlin is dead.
This isn't huge for me, but it's worth mentioning.
For George Carlin, it is a much bigger deal.
On the other hand, I don't think George Carlin had any illusions.
And yet, you look back in history and you notice,
"Pete has Chet Atkins' autograph."
That's an interesting point.
Nobody talks about this much, but it's worth noting.
Sometimes I even felt like George Carlin wasn't so great
just because he failed to mention this.
I remember watching him on TV and just
muttering beneath my breath about what a fucker
he was for not paying attention to the autographs I have.

Stuff Fades

But, also, you get new stuff. For instance, I've been gone but now we're in our new house. You find the stuff from your past and you notice, yes, it's goner than it was but something else is more presenter.

Sure, I Could Name Names, But What's Better Is the Names You Might Imagine

I rarely feel the urge to disparage another poet's work.
I figure everyone is just doing the best they can and so there's nothing to be really be critical about.
Every once in a while I find myself flinching though.
I find my inner person becoming my outer person.
I want to say, hey, that's bullshit.
Not because of how it's written but ultimately about what it implies.
Sometimes I'm like, I can't believe you're implying that!
I recently read a book by a very cool contemporary American poet and found myself questioning why it was I would describe them as "very cool." I thought this: I've experienced your ideas as they apply to your own person and your relationship with me, and I was not impressed. And so the personal starts to matter.
I would never teach my students what ethics matter or what's important about the honesty and morality of their artistic work, but we all know something is there. I do, somehow, think it's important to be honest, even when you're lying. What I really don't like is lying, even when you're telling lies.

The Best Stuff

And what I mean by this is to remember the present. All day long I pretend to to be Darth Maul or Han Solo and most of the day she says "Read" and "Juice" and "Gagagooo...." In this house. And my wife is super sweet but reminds me to take out trash and to deal with the disgusting dog dish.Long gone. This is all in the past. Which I know is very sappy and you probably hate it, but it's a sappy subject.

Talking Heads' Lyrics that Are Relevant

And you may find yourself
in a beautiful house,
with a beautiful wife,
And you may ask yourself-well...
how did I get here?

When You Move You Find Shit

This is evidence of a good decision. In the bottom of a box, here is a receipt. $8.00 for a marriage license. $10.00 for "Family Violence" (I don't know what that means).$18.00 total. A good deal!

I Write Poems and Have a Garage

There is a garage sale coming. You should be there and buy items similar to the ones indicated above. O god, garage sales! That's so cool! It's so cool that I'm so cool that I have garage sales! Hey, it's good for me and it's good for you too.
